Technical Computing with Wolfram's Mathematica: Capabilities, Design and Applications

(17 - 21 April 06 Malaysia)

Dr. Paul Abbott, is one of the most experienced Wolfram Research consultants around today, who has lectured on Mathematica in the U.S., Japan, and India and given many courses at Australian universities. These courses have been attended by professionals and students from a wide range of backgrounds, including people from government departments and financial institutions, scientists, engineers, academics, and medical researchers. After much awaited by many local Mathematica users, Dr. Abott is finally coming from Australia to Malaysia for a week-long public seminar & technical workshop this April. Dr. Abbott is widely known around the world for his work on applications of Computer Algebra System (CAS) such as Mathematica. His research is in the areas of wavelets and few-body atomic physics, and he has general interests in problems in computational and mathematical physics. Nearly all of his publications have used Mathematica in some way. With Chikara Miyaji he coauthored the book MathLink: Network Programming with Mathematica.

If you are researchers, engineers and project managers in the domain of scientific computing and related domains, or academicians who teach mathematics and sciences at high school, college or university, as well as students, this will be excellent chance to find out what's unique about Mathematica technology and why it matters to you. How does it compare with other systems? Why is Mathematica predominant in frontier science and technology R&D?

What Experts Said About Mathematica?

"In the math software marketplace, Mathematica already had established dominance.... "Mathematica has become a powerful language for solving nearly any problem on a computer." Charles Seiter, Macworld Magazine

"...For those requiring real programming, Mathematica is now the product of choice."  Barry Simon, PC Magazine

"... unprecedented capabilities."

"... the numerical computation, programming, and data analysis tools provided by this software are suitable for a wide range of chemical applications, both industrial and academic, and Mathematica's capabilities for visualization make it highly suitable as an interactive tool in chemical education."

Dmitrii E. Makarov, Journal of the American Chemical Society

"In the math software marketplace, Mathematica already had established dominance ..."

"... enhanced string processing, combined with the editing capabilities of Mathematica notebooks, make it the language of choice for writing DNA sequence analysis software."

"Mathematica has become a powerful language for solving nearly any problem on a computer."

Charles Seiter, Macworld Magazine

"It will astound the first-time user to see the extent of calculations possible with this package."

"Unparalleled in usefulness, Mathematica works well with other programs, providing many interfaces and effectively expanding the capabilities of other applications. Its environment is crisp, clear and surprisingly easy to master..."

Wilf Hey, PC Plus

"... the program has now met and exceeded its promises. The engine is solid and the number of built-in functions is legion. The interface is much friendlier, with symbol palettes you can use instead of remembering obscure syntax."

"For the high-end user with multiple needs, Mathematica has become the preferred program."

Barry Simon, Desktop Engineering

"Mathematica is powerfully interactive and operates at a symbolic level that can be exploited to do surprising things."

Michael Swaine, Dr. Dobb's Journal

"...For engineers, designers, scientists, and mathematicians who need a program that can handle calculations involving hundreds of thousands of terms, the new version is hard to beat....

"The thousands of built-in functions and specialized packages make Mathematica a technical worker's candy store....

"For those requiring real programming, Mathematica is now the product of choice."

Barry Simon, PC Magazine

"...Mathematica includes a modern, versatile language that does not force the user into a single style of programming.... The nature of the software allows the user to build sophisticated calculations easily and incrementally."

John D. Binder, Aerospace America

"This powerful program has many fascinating features.... I recommend this software for advanced high school and college students who are required to solve complex mathematical problems and who are interested in preparing highly visual, interactive documents that contain equations and graphs."

Hari P. Koirala, Mathematics Teacher

"...I really can't emphasize enough what a truly incredible adjunct this product is for anyone learning, teaching or just interested in science and mathematics. The reader is enthusiastically encouraged to check it out for themselves...."

Mitchell Levine, Education Update

"Mathematica...is one of the supreme examples of programming....

"If you already use Mathematica, you'll want to upgrade."

John McCormick, Government Computer News

"Without question, I feel it's the most awesome piece of software that I've ever used....

"There are clearly some very powerful algorithms at work here....

"While there are mathematicians whose work would not benefit by Mathematica, I feel they must be a small subset of the population. For most of us, it is an indispensable tool, adding to the amount of different things we can do and also shortening the amount of time it takes us to do them."

Charles Ashbacher, Mathematics and Computer Education
