Expository Workshop of Mathematica (MO101) in Universiti Malaya (UM)

Date : 28th August 2008

Venue: Makmal IGS, Institute of Postgraduate Studies, UM

University of Malaya, the first University of the country, is situated on a 750-acre (309-hectare) campus in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. By 2008, the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS, formerly known as IPS) in Universiti Malaya, has attracted over ten thousands of graduate students domestically, and internationally from nearly 70 countries. IPS has truly indeed reflected the University motto, "Ilmu Punca Kemajuan" (Knowledge is the Key to Success). The IGS is in its constant endeavor to seek knowledge in all fields to produce successful graduates and a successful nation.

Backed by a recent popular demand, the Deputy Dean of IGS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Aishah Hashim Ali, once again organized a one-day Mathematica V6 on 28th Aug 2008 at IGS. The workshop was quickly signed up to the maximum by graduate students with different disciplines & technical interests.

When the graduate students witnessed the power of symbolic computation package for the first time, they were pleasantly impressed with what Mathematica V6 could do to their projects. Many have demanded for more in-depth training of Mathematica. OPTIMAL Expert will bring in more essential Mathematica short courses in near future, to help contribute to the quest of excellence by IGS!

"The Mathematica software is the most convenient software to use in my research. I learnt how to solve the complex equation and also doing graphics for the output result of my research" - Nurul Syazana bt. Amirudin, Universiti Malaya

"The course attended is very useful especially to know how to do with the mathematica V6 for data colllection, import & export and plot. - Hanafiah Shamsudin, Universiti Malaya

"After I attended this course, I feel that Mathematica is more easy/user friendly compared to other computational application. - Latifah Harun, Universiti Malaya

"Mathematica helps in analyzing experimental / simulation result. Draw interactive graphs not found in excel" - Chan Siew Yin, Universiti Malaya

"I am interested in generating animation, 3D visualization and data conversion between MS Excel and Mathematica." - Yalda Motadelrou, Universiti Malaya
